Default exhaust problem

Dear all,

My '02 DreamCruiser has the BTG Duals installed, and is also sitting on some Eibach Pro-Kit Springs. Ever since the exhaust was installed, I have been dealing with a noise/bump/knock that comes from the exhaust pipe hitting the underbody at a yet to be determined location whenver I hit a bump. If anyone else has had the same problem and can suggest a way to fix it, I would surely appreciate it.

paully,

This appears to be a pretty common problem when installing an aftermarket exhaust on a lowered PT. More than likely, the exhaust is hitting the rear axle whenever you hit a bump. Some people have been able to eliminate or significantly reduce the exhaust hitting the axle by going back and readjusting the exhaust to gain some clearance.

By the way, I had a similar type noise when I installed my front and rear swaybars on my stock height PT GT. I found out that the endlinks were not fully snug. Sounded like the exhaust was hitting the undercarriage. Once tightened, no more sounds.

Same here.
I've looked, fiddled, and pondered, no answer yet. [:I]

Cured my knock by having the exhaust shop put an extra hanger around the area of the axle and pulling the exhaust another inch or so away from the top of the axle.

the pipe hits the rear axle. with new springs, there is increase suspension travel, in combo with decreased clearance will cause contact. whrn i uninstalled my bassani you vould see the contact point.

PTGT REDMAN/CREWZIN/QUICKSILVERDON/ELECTRICBLUEGT/

THANKS FOR THE INPUT REGARDING MY PROBLEM. GLAD TO KNOW THAT IT WAS SOMETHING INHERENT IN THE SET UP RATHER THAN SOMETHING I CAUSED WHEN I INSTALLED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. CREWZIN, WILL TAKE YOUR SUGGESTION IN RAISING THE PIPES UP AN INCH OR SO. THANKS AGAIN/PAULLY

Hello all,

The local Midas store in my area opted to change the rubber hangers in the area of the rear axle to smaller ones, which also raised the exhaust pipes up from the axle and seem to have cured most of the knocks (about 90-95%). This quick fix costed all of $15.00 so I'll try it like this for now to see how things "hang". Thanks again all.

Paully
