Default crankshaft sensor??

replaced timing belt and water pump. now have crankshaft sensor error. replaced crankshaft sensor, still have error. 2006 pt non turbo 4 cyl, seems to run above 1000 rpm, rough idle below and sometimes dies. questions 1. is my timing mark possibly off? 2. could it be cam sensor? 3. just not sure what to do at this point?

Have you checked your wiring. Seems like every so often I hear the wires were switched with another sensor after replacing timing belt or doing a head gasket repair.

I recommend you go back over your work rather hunting new problems. Also take a picture of the timing marks for future references such as these. Here are my pics for you to view and compare.

IMO I would replace the cam sensor with the original part double check everything and than precede to continue to look for the problem. My guess is the cam sensor may not have been bad?

Before retesting:
Clear the DTsC with a SCAN tool only!!!!!!!

He meant the crank sensor. But I agree, If you still have it,reinstall it. So not to add any new variables to the problem. Keep the new one for a spare. Need to rule out timing first.
