Default Q on MOBIL 1

(I did look for opinions BEFORE my post...)

First oil change after 'new' 06 with 112,000 miles; MOBIL 1; 5w-30

Vehicle in heated garage all the time other than driiving ;-0

The issue for ME is the oil change frequency. I do NOT like waiting 15,000 miles even tho '1' says U can go that long.

WHAT sayeth the group ?

I wil be using (FRAM/K&N(?)) racing filter for the duraction.

We all need G6 protection for this thread!

I use Mobil 1 most of the time and change my oil and Fram/K&N or original K&N at 5k intervals or sooner depending on how I have been running the engine.

The chosen oil and filter brand in this thread is predictably inexpensive enough that the physiological good feeling of changing the oil and filter which may be technically sooner than needed in some circumstances IMHO out weighs the proclaimed advertising of longer miles between change intervals?

I can see QSD frowning on my run on sentence?

In other words change you darn oil when you think you should which in your case a well cared for PT should be sooner than later....IMO!

Just becuase the "oil" says you can go 15, doesn't mean you can't change it anytime you feel like it.
My Vette and PT, both with high mileage, have had Mobil 1 their entire life. My change interval is around 5K.

. Before the crap starts with G6. It's the additives formulated in that allows for that duration. You could send a sample off for analysis after a curtain mileage. Mercedes has a 10k program for synthetic oil. Not sure the brand. So I would not wast my money on 3 or 6 k change. My. 79 honda had a 6500 mi change interval on Dino. Back when 4 k was seen as over zealous.

It should not because G6 should ONLY respond to talk about the exact question asked about the use and frequency of changes using Mobil 1 and FRAM/K&N filters.

The simple fact is that you cannot hurt anything by changing oil frequently, you can only cause harm by not changing frequently enough.

I can accept that oil may not deteriorate in 15,000 miles, but it will accumulate acids and by-products from combustion that are not good and the additives can only go so far in mitigating the bad effects of.

In the scheme of things, changing the oil is the single most important thing to ensure your engine's longevity - why risk that to save a few bucks???

MY OPINION.

I change every 5,000 miles (Mobil 1) and I'm at 120,000 miles and use no oil.

I'm changing my Mobil 1 and filter every 4K!
It's a cheap bit of insurance.
Why would a person "push the envelope"????

I changed my oil between 4-5k most of the time.

Used to be a Mobil 1 fanatic.....but Valvoline Maxlife High Mileage Full Synthetic has changed my religion.....
