Hi everyone,
Having an issue for a while with my 2002 PT cruiser, for the last few months its been stalling when I come to a stop, not always but most of the time. Just did a tune up on the motor and still the same issue. Just had the cam sensor got a couple days ago and replaced it, thought that might fix it but no. Also wondering what that second cable is for going to the throttle with a vacuum canister, it seems to need replacement because it is not functioning, its always loose whether I unplug the vacuum line or not. Car does not run rough and accelerates smoothly, just stalls after de acceleration. Any ideas? |

New members should always take advantage to introduce yourself and tell a bit about your Cruiser. It seems you will get alot more replies and help from the community when posting issues your having, and please if you get your issue solved, come back and report the fix. You could help others with the same issue.

You might also want to check the high speed on the radiator fan. Just start it up when its cold and turn on your air conditioning and see if it starts to idle rough.

Change the oil pressure sensor. An old one may "hiccup" a signal (drop-out) to the PCM and suddenly the 'brain' says "stop". Or so it seems in my experience. Check and clean the idle control valve as it can 'hiccup', failing to respond timely to the PCM commands. |

Sorry I didn't give a lot of info on the car, its actually my wifes. Thank you for your responses, there's some good ideas for me to check. leaning toward the ideal switch or high speed on rad fan, i'll repost when I figure it out. For some extra info the cars a standard, 2.4L, and is a 2002.

The nice thing about OBDII compliant vehicles is that if they just stall for no apparent reason a DTC will be present. Check for it with a Scan tool and report what the # is!
I would recommend to save your money and stop randomly start replacing parts on a idea that they are bad or from "bad" information you are getting from forums or friends. Not to mention you may be creating more problems by replacing the wrong parts. PT problems read this FIRST |

I have a OBOII reader and there are no errors, cleaned out the idle control valve but still stalls. going to try replacing the idle control.

I would suggest that if you think it might be a fuel related problem you could try some Chevron Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner. I have had one of my PT Cruisers start stalling after driving it on the freeway with no engine trouble codes. After trying some Chevron Techron Fuel Injector Cleaner no more stalling problems.
