Angry My sad story of the instrument panel wiring hacked up

I just bought a 2007 pt touring , 2.4 non-turbo
Here's a little info on what the issue is, I had a couple of hard starts so i figured its the stater no big deal i'll call AAA if i cant start it and tow it home. It blew the #4 fuse in the TIPM "ignition switch" I pulled the fuse and found it was wound with a small amount of wire on the terminal legs of the fuse, oh great. I disassembled the TIPM and it appers good no fried components. I then removed the steering wheel cover around the switch assembly when behold, some one had ran a hot wire from the switch directly to the starter bypassing the relay itself and chopped up the harness in the process fixed it together with butt connectors and electrical tape. Its a miracle it even ran, so the harness has to be replaced most of the wires fell out of the butt connectors some at the plugs them self. Before I bought it I ran a carfax report no problems but it was owned by a rental/lease company for the first 30,000 miles then 2 others which show regular dealer services it has now 67,000 Im the 4th owner. When I was looking under the dash I found a gps tracking device and a remote starter disable I removed it and will contact the tracking agency. So due to the hacked up wiring Im forced to buy a replacement wiring harness OEM part #04795620AF, and installing it my self no problem with that Ive done it on other cars befor. It retails for a whopping price of $950 on up Would buying a salvaged harness be ok, or should I get $crewed by the dealer My wife and I loved this car so far its in excellent condition. If I get pictures Ill post them.

There's some 2nd Gen PT's starting to show up in the salvage yards. You definitely want a used harness if you can get one. It should be under $50 if you pull it yourself. That is a whole lot cheaper than the dealer.

Also, it's very possible the hack job was done by technicians when the GPS tracker was installed. Sometimes they have to bypass a lot to get the kill function to work right. And those techs are often actually custom stereo guys. Too bad you can't just patch all back together correctly following a wiring diagram. That's what I would try first.

Exclamation Re: My sad story of the instrument panel wiring hacked up

more pics;

basically it has to be torn down to a raw dash and the center console removed, so far the labor involved is about 5 hrs to tear down for the inexperienced, when I get the new harness it will probably take around 6-7 to put together, my son is also helping

On the plus side the former car dealer found the harness for $150 he is going to pay for it and the cruises are pretty simple to fix, so far........
