The dealer can get your code with your VIN number, but it won't be cheap as the key needs to be programed.
BTW: if your ignition has ever been replaced it won't matter.

And you can read your VIN # on dash thru the windshield on driver's side.

And for Pete's sake, have 2 or more keys made....

if the key was black and thin it won't cost much. if it was light brown and thicker it's a transponder key and won't be cheap.

If you have one of the original keys you can buy a blank with the chip in the plastic part of the key and have anyone with a key cutter grind the right bumps on it.

Then you can clone that new key/s using instructions that are available on the net. Here is what I found

Instructions
1
Bring the replacement sentry key to a hardware store or dealership. Have it cut to match the original valid sentry keys.
2
Place the first valid key into the PT Cruiser's ignition and turn to the ON position for a minimum of three seconds and a maximum of 15 seconds. Turn ignition switch off until it is in the LOCK position and remove the key.
3
Within 15 seconds, insert the second valid key and turn the ignition to the ON position. Wait ten seconds or until a chime sounds and the vehicle security light begins to flash. Turn the ignition off until it is in the LOCK position and remove the key.
4
Within 60 seconds, insert the new blank sentry key into the ignition switch and turn it to the ON position. Wait 10 seconds or until you hear a single chime and the vehicle security light stops flashing. Look for the indicator light on the dashboard. If it turns on for three seconds and then turns off, the key has been successfully programed.

I've done this with our '05 Neon and it worked fine but I both of the original keys for that car. When we got our PT Cruiser we only got one key. I bought a new key and key fob off eBay and tried to clone it with just the one key I have and it did not work. I was able to program the key fob with just the one key fob we got though.

The dealer wants $130.00 just to program the second key now. I'm looking for a locksmith that has the proper equipment to do this for me hopefully for less money.
