Default Shot motor mounts, again!

I've been digging through the old post about motor mounts and have a couple of questions. Car is a 2003, non-turbo, automatic with 176,000 on the clock.

First, why do the mounts keep breaking. I've owned dozens of cars and this is the only one that I've ever had break a mount (lower torque arm really). Was replacing A-arms a few months back and saw the lower torque arm was shot, replaced it. Back under the car doing some other work and it's broken again.

Second, we have a non-turbo but I was wondering if the turbo mounts would work and be a little stronger.

Any help would be great, I'd like to only do this one more time.

John

you NEED to loosen the upper and lower, stick a jack under the motor, and adjust the jack to match this picture. and then tighten them.

that's 4.685" if you're an 'all american like me that refuses to measure in MM.
11/16= .687, so a rats hair under 4 & 11/16".

if you fill the mounts and dont adjust them you'll just shear the bolts off. well.. if you drive like me you will..
boonie2 and dalandon like this.

I would suggest you carefully apply upward force when you are using the jack as you can put unnecessary pressure on the center and transmission mount. I always watch the engine tilting back towards the rear as I am jacking it up and I stop when I see the engine is not tilting anymore.
