Default Engine Cuts out

So for the last few months, whenever I am on the freeway doing 60-65 mph taching around 1.5-2K, around once every couple of weeks, I will get a split second engine cut out. The needles on the speedo and tach drop immediately and then a split second later, everything is fine again.

I am discounting fuel as I would not expect the gauges to drop out like they do in a fuel starvation scenario.

No codes when I do the key dance. From what I have read, crank position sensor, cam position sensor, bad ground, bad CPU but it is so intermittant, and never on the street at 35 mph.

Any possibility a code reader might pick up something that the key dance does not?

idea?

Nasty in that the frequency is such that it's hard to know when you've fixed it.
Inspect wiring - starting with battery terminals - and check connectors and look for wires rubbing.
Certainly can't hurt to hook up a code reader - try an AdvanceAuto, etc., they will plug inn for free.

Yes, definitely do the code reader. But you need to access the readiness files. Not all code readers can access these.

What year and how many miles on your PT Cruiser?
Has there been anything replaced or repaired before the engine started cutting out at high speeds?

115K on the odometer. Went to a convention 70 miles from the house on the freeway this past weekend. Saw the convention, driving home for about 50 miles, one small hickup, speedo drops from 62 to 5o, car shudders and then back to normal.

Could this be any more intermittant?

How long has been since the Camshaft and the Crankshaft sensors have been replaced?
Do you know what brand the Camshaft and Crankshaft sensors you current have in your PT Cruiser?
Does it seem to cut out at 2,500 rpm each time?

If it does seem that the engine cuts out at 2,500 rpm you might be going into limp mode intermittently. I would consider replacing the Camshaft sensor first if the engine is cutting out at 2,500 rpm.
