Default Starting troubles.

I have a 2003 pt cruiser non turbo. Recently after getting some body work done (Replaced the deck lid and rear bumper) I took my car to work. After work it began showing a no fuse signal on the dash. I tested and replaced the IOD which was indeed blown. Immediately after the lights in the car would not work and I found that the battery was completely dead. After replacing the battery I tried again and this time the starter only gave a single click noise and then nothing. Several days later, after testing the starter, and the alternator, I decided to just try starting the car for the hell of it, and it started and I was able to get it home from work, and then on another short trip today. The temperature has been below freezing the past few days, until yesterday when it did actually start up. What could the problem have been and how can I prevent it from happening in the future?

Try to wigglle the cables on the battery - you shouldn't be able to move them - if you can move them, tighten the clamps.
Check the cables going to starter - if they look corroded, take connections off and clean them and retighten.
Could be starter is starting to go...
