Default 02 ring replacement

hello all!...ok here's the deal...got to install some new rings (very low compression due to severe overheating) and i was just wondering if the rod caps/nuts are easily accessable from underneath the car...looks like the pan will be easy to drop but i have seen posts and hear that the balance shaft may be in the way to get to those nuts. I want to pull the head and push the pistons out from under the car....OR...would it just be easier to pull the engine...???

Drop the engine. Way easier.

i'd recommend removing engine- I've done rings in car in the 2.0, and the 2.4 does have balance shafts- but reason why is I always worry honing grit gets on crankshaft no matter what precautions you take. Engines have been just fine for 10's of thousands of miles, so maybe worry is unwarranted.

To replace the piston rings on a PT Cruise with the 2.4 engine properly you must remove the engine and disassemble the reciprocating assembly. This can not be done while in the engine compartment.
