Default Temp gauge goes up 3 quarters??

I'm doing body work on our Cruiser so it hasn't been ran in a few weeks so I wanted to start it up today and leave it run for about a half an hour 45 minutes it was doing fine temp gauge was at half for all that time until around the 40 minutes when I checked it and it was up to the 3 quarters mark and a little pass the 3 quarters mark then I shut it off right away, the fan was on but the temp wasn't going down, it's got a brand new thermostat in and the fluid is topped off in the radiator, could it be from sitting for a long period of time??

My guess is that the high speed on your fan died, and low speed works.
The high speed is VERY noisy.

Yea that could be because we don't hear the fan running that noisy as it use to, we barely hear the fan run now. Are the fans easy to replace?

Here's for '01-'05 N/A (not a turbo)
Removing the fan and housing 01-05 PT

and the usual problem is the brushes...

The radiator fan fix

I'm worried about the overheating part because we just did a head gasket replacement on this car and I know that when the car gets hotter then usual it could ruin the head gasket and warp the head I heard, the temp got to 3 quarters and a real little bit over not in between half of 3 quarters and hot yet. I hope we're fine on the head gasket I hope we didn't damage it.

I would suggest waiting until the engine is cold then start it up turn on the air conditioning and see if the high speed fan kicks in. As QuicksilverDon posted the high speed on the radiator fan should be loud and noisy.

I have a 2009 Cruiser that was getting hot for no apparent reason. No water
leaks or steam visible. Changed thermostat to no avail. Had radiator pressure
tested. Only when pressure was above 13 PSI would the crack in the radiator
tank open and leak. That explains why I never saw a leak in my driveway.

I replaced the radiator with a new one $135.00 and the problem was resolved.

Good for you for doing a pressure test

I was wondering how much a pressure test might run. After changing the thermostat it still puts coolant into the overflow tank. It runs out and smells. I'm thinking I may have a blockage or something. Any ideas would help. Thanks.

If it's pushing into bottle, that's not symptom of a leak...
Have test done for combustion gas in coolant (head gasket).
Assuming you verified fan works both speeds?
