Default PT Error Codes Help Needed!!

HI all, My folks are on their way up from North Carolina for the birth of my son in Massachusetts, and their PT cruiser popped up 2 codes P2503 and P0344 in Chambersburg Pennsylvania.

It's a 2004 2.4 turbo. He mentioned that the battery is running 14 volts, which he felt was high...the battery was new back in December and never gave any codes.

He was driving on the highway, the car "coughed" and he noticed sputtering and it started running poorly which aligns with the P0344 symptoms. He pulled over, shut the car down, started it and it ran a little better for the remainder of the ride. the codes did not come on till they got to the hotel...he unloaded their luggage, went back to the car, and thats when the codes came up with the engine light simultaneously. Is their some connection between the two that points to a source like a battery/alternator/regulator etc?

P0344 is often cam position sensor or wiring to it.

The 2503 is charging system - many places (sears, Walmart) check battery & charging system for free.

The P2503 code could cause the P0344 because of low voltage..have the alternator checked. Do a load test on the charging system.

BTW: 14 volts for the battery is fine, mine runs between 13.8-14.03 while driving.

I would suggest checking the battery cables including the ground battery cable connecting to the fender. You might have a weak ground.
Also open up the battery caps and see if you are low on battery fluid. Some PT Cruisers are know for being hard on batteries. The battery cells next to the positive and negative post seems to run low on fluid on some PT Cruisers.
