Default transmission filter has metal in it?

Is this amount of metal in the filter enough to worry about? Gt has 146, 000 on it and i just found this tonight while i was makin repairs to power steering pump&reservoir, trans solenoid pack and tranny service.

How old is this filter mileage wise? Flushing or missing magnet?

Trans filter is to my knowledge 41, 000 miles old no flush as far as i know just filter change and fluid. And today i did solenoid but that's not relevant to the filter in picture lol

No point to worrying - you are doing the best you can for it.

I never cut open my filters. Just clean the pan and magnet. If you don't feel anything different just Keep a watch for any changes.

Any metal fragments in transmission pan is a sure sign the pin has been pulled on that grenade. Thats just not normal wear.

I'm sorry JoeX but that's just not true. I have yet to pull a pan on an american car that didn't have some. That looks like a little large but not unheard of. Back in the mid 80's mercedes were like you said any metal it was as bad sign.

IMO The pictures provided would be for a "ok noted" concern. I would make the next filter/pan fluid change at about 10k miles to recheck.

A few quarts of transmission fluid and filter kit are cheap insurance for a recheck and easy to do.

At least you did not find a watch in the pan like I did once from a factory sealed transmission pan.

For the observers please look carefully at the pictures provided. They tell you a lot.
JoeX and ptcruisersteve like this.
