Sci-Fi,

So the 7570 is a hotter plug...but what does it do differently. I got rid of any hesitation by going with aftermarket intake, exhaust and the 7440's. It'll spin the tires from a stand still and go right on up to MX-5's burp-free modification with no problem what-so-ever. I am happy with the 7440's and as I said just received 6 (ordered 4)new ones to have on hand for the next change.

Why did you need to change them again?

I was just looking at the redesign, a smaller tapered tip and shorter projector nose usually means a hotter plug and the smaller tip will stay hot and stay cleaner longer. Plus the side electrode is shaped like the Bosch Platinum side electrode so you have more/multiple edge areas for the spark to jump to. For the N/A engine there shouldn't be much of a difference between the 2 plugs. The heat range may be rated the same. Might want to wait for MX-5's response on that. Champion single platinum plug #3032 is a one range colder plug, but isn't double platinum and there are differences in opinion whether the 3032 plug is desirable for use in waste spark ignitions. As far as the spark plug gap, I've seen the turbo guys go as low as .028-.032 (.040 is pretty much what I see most often used)depending on the boost and supercharger folks using .040-.042 to control misfires. Like I mentioned before, the N/A people have been going with smaller gaps than stock lately to eliminated the off the line hesitation.

Si-Fi, thanks.

KingKole, I don't need to change them again, I just have things available when I need them. I probably won't change them till i reach 100,000 miles...have 60,000 now. I had new plugs wires sitting around for a couple of months and then I ran into a hesitation problem and took QSD's advice and threw the new wires on which cured the problem. I have new pads and rotors sitting here waiting till I need them. A lot of my stuff comes from eBay and if I put in a low bid and it happens to win, then I have the spare parts handy.

Life is GOOD AGAIN!!! I just replaced my stock coil with a Screamin Demon, stock plugs with Champion double platinums and stock wires gave way to 8.5mm Magnecores.
Now the really good news. Before the new parts I couldn't spin the front tires from a dead stop and my top speed was barely 98 MPH. I just got back from a test run and I can now spin the tires on dry pavement off the line and my top speed has increased to 105 MPH with a FULL load of fuel and the front end covered with 135 miles of bugs.
Now, how to get past the limiter........

[:I]Interesting stuff. Good info on plugs and coil. Just one question for snake. Are you trying to kill yourself? I don't know much, but I'd say the limiter was their for good reason. As was said before these are not airo dynmanic cars. So how do you know how it will handle if you hit a higher speed like 120? Even if no other cars are around you could do some nasty damage losing control at that speed.[|)]

Live fast , Die young and leave a good looking corpse.

These cars handle just fine at higher speeds. Limiters are generally placed on cars to protect people who do not possess the abilities or skills to drive at speed. Even certain German autos with very powerfull engines have speed governers. It also is used to show the insurance nazis that this car is limited there for a lower risk. And lastly, tires. I believe that our stock tires are rated to 105MPH. Better rubber, more power and rip that damn limiter from the cars brain..... Life would then be very good.

If 105 is good, then 115 is better. I guess if speed isn't your thing then a nice 68 VW bug is more in line for ya.
