When my coil pack failed the first time, the service tech told me that he changed out several of them recently. Apparently, there was a large lot of these coil pack with problems that were not caught and returned to the manufacturer. I ended up with one and now, apparently, the replacement is also failing. Quality control is not what it should be.

Really? What year PT? How many miles? Haven't heard on any forum of any coil failures. I have 73,000 miles on mine, couple PTs that went well past 100,000 miles didn't replace theirs ('01s). [:I]

My PT of choice is a black 2003 Touring edition. The first coil pack failure occured with less than 5000 or so miles. The car has about 27000 or so miles now, and the same symtoms are occuring again. Chrysler tech at dealership confirmed that the coil pack is bad, causing plug misfires. The misfires occur randomly and any of the 4 plugs. Makes me long for the days when cars had distributors and the coil was remotely mounted. [xx(]

The Screamin Demon coil manufacturer recommends gapping plugs at .065".
Gear Head - you're running a screamin demon, what did you gap your plugs at, and how is it working for you?
Stock gap is .050" and many have recommended gapping at .042-.045" to cure off idle stumble.
With the higher output coil and a set of Magnecore wires hooked to Champion double platinum plugs - what gap should I set into the plugs?

the only reason that our coils would not be good enough is when dunning high boost it makes it harder for the spark to jump the gap. i have been working at a dealer for 8 years i have on;y seen 3 coils on neons fail and never on a pt.

ps it our coils were lacking then you know mopar would have made money off us in a stage kit or the neons in s3 but it is good enough for the s3 then it's good enough for anything lower too. thats my 2 cents

Update on the Screamin Demon coil I installed in my 2003 non-turbo PT. The coil failed on the first drive into work. #2 coil side failed cutting off spark to clyinders #1 & 2. Luckily I was within a mile of a local Chrysler dealership. I had to pay over $200 bucks for a new stock coil. The guys at Performance Distributors in Memphis, TN sold me this part. To their credit, the customer service they offered was OUTSTANDING! They offered to send me out another coil as a replacement or fully refund my money. I sent them the coil back for analysis. This is the first reported failure of this coil in years. Lucky me, huh?
Anyway, when the coil did work, I could feel a diference, plus the car was quicker off the line, and had better milage.
Next modification???????
