Ignition coil choices?

Default Ignition coil choices?

I am changing my stock plug wires to a set of Magnecor KV85 wires. Spark plugs to go from stock whatever to Champion dual platinum #7440. Now, what about ignition coils? Are there aftermarket coils available for N/A 2.4 PT motors? AND.... which would be best for sustained high speed highway driving with bursts of "quickness" from stop lights?

Snakepitt1,

I haven't seen a lot of talk about anyone going for a new coil but I think it's probably a good idea. I sure thought about it with my Vette and added a high performance coil to it when I was overhauling the ignition. The one for the PT I was looking at is here in this link and at only $64.95...it couldn't hurt [:I]

Screamin Demon is the one I put on my GT Turbo and am very happy with it....

Thanks for the info. I had read else where in this forum about this screamin demon coil. Other members that tried it seemed pleased. I went ahead and ordered it today. I'll provide a report once it is installed.

I am replacing it because it failed once, is about to fail again and a better alternative is available.

I'll be sure and document any and all performance and fuel economy as well as "seat of pants" results pertaining to this change.
Now if I could just figure how to get a picture of my car on this board.......

I have not had any failures with my coil, but I only have about 15K on the car right now. However, the stock coils these days put out a lot of juice on their own. If you are having failures I would be concerned about why it is happening. That is not par for the course.

You can deliver a lot more more charge to the plug these days with low ohm wires. I have seen stock wires that have 500ohms of resitance per foot. A good performance wire will be in the 50-75 range. Of course the wires on the PT are very short but this is one of those cases where less really is more.
