Yeah I wouldnt trade my car in for a new one, I love its appearance. How much would that cost to do the shift mod if I got it professionally done? I know it still wont be the fastest car, all i want is a little more jump at the beginning, and a little more horsepower. I dont understand why anyone would put an I-4 in such a heavy car, although it does have a pretty good size engine for a 4 cylinder. DOHC 16V 2.4 liter.
Just to clarify... the shift mod only helps with a automatic tranny.

The K&N FIPK or similar air intake (look for one with a heat shield) is the best bang for the buck... Small performance increase, large sound increase.

The 150hp engine is just a reminder that this is really a sensible little econobox with some cute sheetmetal.

That's a good call.
Gets expensive after that
Exhaust is more cosmetic on n/a cruisers, depends on the look you want.
Avoid throttle body spacers, they don't work.
A header is a reasonable choice later, just search around for types that are reliable and good quality (JBA, etc.) avoid Hedman's.
To really put more power (real power) not factitious HP "add on bolt on claims), you'd have to go aftermarket for a turbo or supercharger. If you want to pull about 200hp, you could spend 5 grand buying and having a supercharger installed. Or a more adaptable solution is a Hahn turbo. However, both require some degree of maintenance know how in terms of proper tuning. If your not ready to do that, then that's not the choice for you.
I think the first couple of suggestions would help make the driving experience more fun. If you have a 5spd, it is peppier than the auto. Try a Hurst shifter with more solid bushings...helps with shifting efficiency.

Unless your parking lot looks something like this...

Then your not the slowest. Look at the statistics in the back of almost any car magazine and you'll see plenty of slower cars out there.

Well maybe a Geo Tracker or a Toyota Matrix not to mention the Mitsu Outlander.

Colby,

Acording to Motor Trend(June 04) and Road & Track(Feb 04) of the cars they tested, the results showed that these were equal or slower than the N/A PT Cruiser:

VW Passet GLX
VW New Beetle GLS
VW Touareg
Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler Sebring Conv.
Ford Expedition
Ford FreeStar Limited
GMC Canyon SLE
Honda Civic Hybrid
Honda Insight
Hummer H2
Hyundai Santa Fe
Jeep Liberty
Kia Sorento
Land Rover Discovery
Lexus LX470
Mercedes ML350
Mitsubishi Outlander
Saturn Ion
Scion XA & XB
Suzuki Verona
Toyota Highlander
Toyota Prius
Toyota Sequoia
Volvo XC70

The Matrix and Tracker wern't tested in thoses particular issues but your probably right, they can be added to the list. So, you see, we have plenty of company in the "slow" lane!

it seems like you guys are taking me way too seriously. I dont really think i am the absolute slowest car in the parking lot either, just one of the bottom ones.
