What do you guys think about an ECU chip to max out the car's performance? Would it be a practical investment?

no.
That's a dead end.
Save up for a tubo or supercharger.
Don't mess with the engine management system unless you know how to fix it.
Kenne Belle is the only flash program for the cruiser, avoid other companies like Jet.

Like what?
Well maybe a Geo Tracker or a Toyota Matrix not to mention the Mitsu Outlander.
Colby,

Acording to Motor Trend(June 04) and Road & Track(Feb 04) of the cars they tested, the results showed that these were equal or slower than the N/A PT Cruiser:

VW Passet GLX
VW New Beetle GLS
VW Touareg
Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler Sebring Conv.
Ford Expedition
Ford FreeStar Limited
GMC Canyon SLE
Honda Civic Hybrid
Honda Insight
Hummer H2
Hyundai Santa Fe
Jeep Liberty
Kia Sorento
Land Rover Discovery
Lexus LX470
Mercedes ML350
Mitsubishi Outlander
Saturn Ion
Scion XA & XB
Suzuki Verona
Toyota Highlander
Toyota Prius
Toyota Sequoia
Volvo XC70

The Matrix and Tracker wern't tested in thoses particular issues but your probably right, they can be added to the list. So, you see, we have plenty of company in the "slow" lane!
I happened to go through this thread, while researching info on another thread. I saw the VW Toureg is equal to or slower than the N/A PT...The R&T driver must have taken it easy on the car. I thought this thing was like the Porche Ceyenne with 350 hp?

Can anyone explain to me the differences between the whippie and than hahn? Which will help more, what I need to do for upkeep, anything you can tell me will help. I have alot of friends and drag racing is pretty big around here. I know I will never beat their 70's Chevelle's and all their other muscle cars, but I would atleast be able to have a respectible car. Would it be possible to get the PT down to a 10 second car?

I have read a lot about making the PT faster. The Hahn Turbo and/or the Whipple supercharger should make vast improvement. Maybe shave around 1.5-2 seconds on 0-60;1/4 mile. With proper tuning, along with engine parts to support the boost (rods pistons etc..) I have seen about a 14 flat quarter mile. Around 14 flat is a very respectable time to our 3200 pound four-bangers IMHO. Getting down to 10... I think that bolting the body on to a completely different chassis would do the trick. If not, maybe a hemi conversion, which is $$expensive$$. But, what do I know? My 2001 5spd is stock, and I dont want it that way for long.

Taylormade, step up and drop in either the Injen, or FIPK system. I dropped in the Injen after putting flowmasters on, and there is a pretty good difference. Also think about putting on an Unorthadox Ultra S underdrive pulley, that will give you 5-10HP at the wheels.

The only way I would spend the cash on sc or turbo is if u got a lot of cash in your car and dont want to trade up.Look also at it this way Hahn kit 2,500,tuneable muffler 100.00,drop in Kn air filter 30.00 add a used Ford probe or Dodge Conquest or Saab ic for another 100.00 and you are good for 9-10 lbs of boost. or this way good header 450.00 custom intake 200.00 custom exhaust 375.00 maybe 15-18 hp max. Even with all these upgades combined the cruiser is still not the fastest car, neither is the factory cruiser turbo,I had a big grin on my face this summer when at a car show a guy with a very built Dart with a 440 in it wouldnt shut his mouth about how fast it was. this guy with a silver stage 2 neon said he would run him. They linned up and the neon beat him so bad the guy never came back. Thats fast

Im getting the FIPK for xmas. Im also looking at other, not-so-well-known mods that might help. Ive also got a friend who can do anything possible on a car, at 16, which helps. Its just going to be an ongoing project. If i got a really hig paying job, i would start saving up for a turbo, but i dont have it yet. Im startin small for right now. Im trying to get the same thing you are paintballer, respect. Im inching my way past a bunch of cars in the parking lot (not by racing, but by hp) my car will be respectable before i get through with it
