The one thing you need to knwo is this
The PT 2.4 is a NON INTERFERANCE MOTOR no matter what any mechanic tell you the pistons can NOT HIT THE VALVUES NON INTERFERANCE you will not need a new motor and yes to the $750-$1200 for a timing belt water pump and tensioners |

It's a non interference engine far as Pistons hitting valves. Lots of ho to info on here if he wants to familiarize himself with it. If he has never done one.

I did hear of one at around 80,000. It is recommended to change belt at 100,000 miles. Did you buy the car used?

yes, bought it used, just about a month ago. My Civic owners manual said 100,000 miles and a buddy informed me that it also says 7 years. We were at 85,000 miles and 9 years, so had it done. The guy who did it has the PT now, and he was like $200 less than other places, but $500 less than the dealership.
I will have an idea on the cost tomorrow. It's too much for me to try on my own. and THANK YOU! |

See my post on timing belts!
My 2005 had cracks on inspection last week. But, who does an occassional inspection of the belt!!! And, my mileage on the 2005 is only 40K! Age an environmental conditions are just as big a factor.

I decided I should check the timing belt but it looked like new to me. NO cracks and the numbers printed on it still looked like new. I think the previous owner might have done the job shortly before he traded it in.
