Angry 2003. Just shut down

Getting ready to head out of town, stopped to get gas, went back out started up pulled out and it shut off, nothing shut down except the engine. When I tried to restart nothing when the key was in the start position. I did a quick check of the obvious things cables, connections, fuses and found no problems. Tried to start once again, and it worked for about thirty seconds. I have removed airbox and checked all my battery connections, also checked the state of charge, and again checked the fuses. I checked the power on the trigger wire to the starter solenoid when the key is in the start position 0 volts, I also applied voltage to the trigger wire lead and the engine turns over fine. At this point I swapped a couple of the relays in the fuse box in case the one marked starter relay was bad. No change.
Any ideas?

When I turn the key to the run position everything powers up just no start

I'm currently experiencing the same sort of thing with my 04. And getting many different possible answers.

Had a similar issue - car would run for 10-15 sec, then shut off. Turned out to be the fuel pump

Thumbs down Re: 2003. Just shut down

I wonder if the ignition switch actuator pin could be bad and just isn't moving the switch far enought to engage the relay?

Try another key if you have one, How many miles?

Push in on the key and hold while turning to start, what happens?

I pulled out the wiring diagram, after verifying the ignition switch was working by checking continuity between the red wire and the yellow , I started tracing the yellow wire back to the pcm, I had to remove the bottom of the panel which snaps off with a little effort, that's where I found the rats nest. Once I cleaned everything out, repaired the wiring and put a couple of mothballs in. It started up and ran well.

Seems like a lot of people are having shut down problems, but no two have the same cause, weird.

Great that you posted the cure for your problem. Always good to find out what the final out come is.
