Default Why??

Can anyone tell me why PT Cruisers don't idle smoothly. I have another post about an uneven idle but I just tried a 2004 GT with automatic and it didn't idle smooth either. The dealer is going to buy back mine but am I foolish to look at a turbo?

I tend to disagree with that statement. If everything is correct, the idle is as smooth as can be. Hope this link works. Click on the picture. The camera movement is less smooth than the engine at idle. The hissing noise is the air being sucked in the short ram filter.

Cool Re: Why??

I look at it this way....and tell my wife too....
It doesn't have 6 or 8 cylinders like most cars.
They sound and feel smoother just becaues there is twice as much noise between each revolution of the engine.

I have owned 5 Cruisers now, and I feel like they all idled a little better towards 800 rpm. The current 2005 turbo lite idles around 760, according to the Aeroforce gauge, and is pretty smooth, considering.
It actually idles smoother than my 2010 Couture Ed. with is due for plugs and wires at 43K.

Why would a Cruiser idle rough???

The PT engine does idle smoothly as far as little 4-cylinder toy car engines go.

When I first bought my 2001 PT Limited, it idled kind of rough but ran great down the road. But after I put in new plugs and wires, it idled pretty smoothly. And my current 2005 PT GT has always idled smoothly.

You may need a simple tune up. Try some new plugs and wires. The original plug wires are notorious for breaking down over time and causes rough idles and misfires.

I recently got a set of MSD 8.5 mm plug wires to put on my GT. These seemed to be well liked and are very reasonably priced on eBay and Amazon.
