on my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee High-Output V-8 (265HP) based on my limited driving experience of less than 200 miles. [8D] [8)]
I had my wife's vehicle "performance chipped" last week, and, in addition to noticing more power, there was a solid 10% increase in fuel ecomony for the first tank fill-up of premium gas today. While it is still way to early to draw any firm conclusions it does look promising that the Jet Performance Chip is a "winner". Check-out their site here: http://www.jetchip.com/ My initial impressions (some city/mostly highway) are as follows: * For the money, this performance upgrade is cost effective. For $218.90 installed including tax (MSRP is $300) my wife's Jeep may well have gained around 30HP (with K&N drop-in performance air filter) bringing the total horses pushing the vehicle to 300--just 40 short of the new Chrysler 300C HEMI. Overall, the estimated horse power gain is said to be somewhere around 10% for most vehicles (conservative estimate according to the Parts Manager at my DC Dealership). * There is a noticeable improvement in low-end torque. * Less movement depressing the gas pedal is now needed to attain comparable speed than before. * The exhaust tone, while not loud, seems to have changed somewhat to a "more aggressive/throaty sound" (with the stock muffler) especially when at WOT. * The over-all shifting of the automatic transmission is even smoother than before--especially noticeable at 45MPH+ when in a "passing mode". * The Jeep continues to perform flawlessly with the new performance chip--no problems noted at all. * The information that came with the chip indicated it will provide "improved economy". Only time will tell, but my initial impressions as mentioned earlier are positive. Overall, I really like this MOD on my wife's vehicle. But, even MORE IMPORTANT, is that she is happy with the performance modification! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now, you are probably wondering...Is the JET Performance Chip available for the PT Cruiser??? Well, if you check their website under "Domestics"...IT IS NOT...at least not yet. ![]() ![]() "Hi I have installed a Jet power control unit on my 2002 PT Cruiser and after a dyno test i have gained 8hp with the use of your product I thank you guys for working so hard on making after market performance parts for so may kinds of cars and truck keep up the Fantastic work !! I am sending you pictures of my PT." Dean 2003/03/31 On the downside, I just ordered my Stage 1 Upgrade for my GT last week prior to "chipping" my wife's Jeep--so I'm committed to receiving a performance upgrade for my car (with comparable HP gains) but at more than twice the price. It was available for the PT.
I wrote the installation instructions for them, back in spring 2001. I also did extensive testing of the unit and found very disastrous results. It has since been discontinued. The guide I submitted to www.ptdiy.net has been deleted, although Race & Street continued to use my photos they stole from the diy site. i know that when i put a chip in my s10 that it required that i use premium unleaded. with a price difference of approx. $ .20/gallon, it goes a long way towards offsetting any savings realized by increased fuel economy. the mileage increase i got from my chip was more than offset by having to pay for much more expensive gas...at least now 20 cents is only 10% of the total gas cost instead of 14% when gas was 1.50. gas now 2.40 and still climbing!!

According to JET PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS..."Yes. All JET Performance Chips and most Performance Modules are 50 state emissions legal. They do not change the emissions at all from the stock tuning chip for any Federal or local emissions test. C.A.R.B. (California Air Resources Board) has issued Executive Order numbers D-234 through D-234-6 covering all JET Performance Power Chips, making JET Performance chips the most complete line of high-performance chips that can legally be sold, installed, and driven in the state of California. Because of C.A.R.B.'s very rigid rules concerning exhaust emissions, the Environmental Protection Agency ( E.P.A. ) accepts C.A.R.B. approval as evidence that an aftermarket part is clean and suitable for use in all other states." "Sure what you think is throatier exhaust isn't K&N filter?" No, as the K&N had been installed previously and I did not notice any change in the stock exhaust tone until after the performance chip was added. [8)] |
