I bought a 2005 PTGT a few month back. It had just had the head gasket and timing belt replaced. A few days after buying it, check engine light came on.P0420 code popped up. Replaced catalytic converter. Check engine light went out. 2 weeks later, check engine light came back on. Don't remember th code, but it was for the camshaft position sensor. This sensor had a crack in it, I replaced it. Check engine light went out. A month later, check engine light came on P0304. Changed spark plugs and wires yesterday. I also noticed at this time, sensor on the intake that the parts store said was for the turbo was broke (PN EC7034) sensor mounts on the intake above #2 cylinder. Replaced the sensor. Now, the car struggles to start. When it does start, it barely idles. The first code it gave me was an P1187. Then a code for multiple misfires. I reset the PCM. Even took the battery cable off. Restarted the car, now getting a P0068 code. Car idles really rough. When you step on the gas, nothing. Car acts like it's going to die. I'm out of ideas, and don't want to soak more money into it with out knowing more about what's causing this! Also, when I pulled the plugs to change them, there was a lot of oil on the threads. Is this normal.

From what you've described, it does sound like something was moved or dislodged when you replaced the MAP sensor. Do you hear a sucking noise when the engine is running?
Start at the air filter and check all the connections up to the throttle body. You'll probably find a disconnected hose or part of the filter system. There's a vacuum line next to the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor that's part of the air filter so make sure that's connected. When did you take the spark plugs out when this problem started? If it was around the same time you replaced the MAP sensor I would check the spark plug wires. Start it up at night and see if there is arcing coming from the spark plug wires with all the lights out. Last edited by ptcruisersteve; 28 Jun 2015 at 10:36 am. |
