Default Ignition Key Problem

Can anybody help. When I turn the key to shut off my car the key clicks to the accessory position and the key won't release. I have to move the key slightly up toward the on position to get the key out of the ignition. Has anyone had this problem and is it a common one at that?

Shifter is not in park, happens to me about once a week.
Turn the key back to 'On' move the shifter to neutral & push back into park till the button pops.

You might try a little lube on the key as in graphite, use nothing else to lubricate anything with small moving parts like tumblers or pins.

graphite oil seems to work great only on home and non chrysler applications. lately i have been a fan of this:

>>>
I've now had chance to trawl the Internet and discovered that this is a very common fault, not only with the Voyager, but with a whole host of Chryslers going back nearly twenty years, and there's an easy fix. With the key in the ignition, tap the end with a soft mallet while simultaneously turning the key back towards the "radio on" position. From there, you can remove the key or rotate forwards to start the car. I tried it, and it works!
<<<

discovered it a few weeks ago when i was baking to death in the sun in our caravan and the damn key wouldn't turn. rather than smash the windows out and jump on the roof, i found that on google. been fine ever since.

I just installed a new ignition switch so I should not have to tap it. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the ignition actuator or the key cylinder?

the tapping is to resolve an issue with the cylinder.
