Default Crossmember Change Advice

Hey there,

My crossmember broke through on the passenger side while coming to a stop. It was rusted through. Fortunately, we were not going 65 MPH when this happened. The other 80% of the crossmember has no rust, with the exception of the weld on the other side and only the weld is rusty. The rest of the undercarriage has no rust and it is washed two times a week all year long ($4 car wash days at SA twice a week!).

Obviously, this should not have happened. It looks like the A/C drains onto the crossmember, which is probably why this rusted through only on the passenger side. Would you recommend contacting Chrysler (again) for assistance or should I just change it out? If changing out, how big of a job is that?

Thanks again!

Default Re: Crossmember Change Advice

All the drains I've seen drain onto the crossmember, I'd like to slap that engineering designer.

I don't wash mine and they are not even close to rusting through.
You may have just gotten a bad piece of metal.
I used to work in a steel mill and steel is xrayed for defects/ pin holes as it flys through the rolls to level and produce a consistent thickness, sometimes problems happen,
sometimes productivity over rules.
