Default car heats up while driving on freeway, but normal in city

Its probably on here but I could find it...

yesterday driving to work and the temp when up, reached the 3/4 mark...ran the heater on high and helps but not all the way back to normal.

So I stopped and got a low fan relay and replace it all was find drinving in the city but on the highway temp went up...again ran the heater on high and made all the way home 47 miles.

This morning I replace the high fan relay, thermostat and radiator cap. Drove around the city all day from store to store and absolutely no problem. But as soon as I got on the freeway after a mile the temp climbed up to 3/4 mark...ran the heater and temp stopped climing and once off the freeway the temp dropped but still a bit over normal.

By the way, I had replaced the radiator fan about 2 months ago because of bearing went out.

Nothing in the oil, no smoke out of the exhaust. So what do you all think, Head Gasket?

I will need to figure out a way to pressure test the cooling system, tools needed and were to rent what I need to do it. I seen it work on the low side when I turn on the AC and when the car was sitting in driveway but I need to test the hight side?

Thanks in advance...will be checking on youtube...for more insight!

Do you think your radiator could be clogged?

Engine generates the most heat in freeway driving. Radiators starting to clog would show up in your type of driving - at least it did for my other cars.

Fan shouldn't come on at high speed, so I don't think it's your fan.
I suspect a clogged radiator - enough coolant makes it thru to get rid of heat at low speeds, but when you are at speed and engine is making more power, there isn't enough flow thru radiator to get rid of heat.
See if you can get radiator flushed - can't hurt.

If you determine it is a clogged radiator don't have it cleaned out, just replace it with the best new one you can buy. Modern radiators are throwaways.

Are you loosing coolant or is the coolant coming out of the coolant overflow container?

Are you using HOAT coolant?

Have you done a flush on the radiator and heater core? IF not, try that and replace the thermostat and put some new 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water in there. I agree that it sounds like the radiator isn't flowing correctly, but if it's clogged, then odds are pretty good that the heater core will be too. Try the flush first if you do the pressure test and don't find any leaks.

Thanks guys...

I will be doing a flush over the holiday off time...Valvoline™ ZEREX™ G-05™ Antifreeze / Coolant will be what I am going to put in the radiator as well.

I have replaced the following:

Rad cap
Thermostat
Low and High Fan Relay's

And fan was replaced a month or so ago.

I am going to flush it and will replace with new fluid and while I am at it I will take out he radiator and look for any trash that between the AC condenser and the Radiator.

I think its in the radiator and I found new on line for $56 so worst case I will order one if I have to.

Thanks again for the assist, Happy Thanksgiving!
