Default Fuel Injector

We left the PT in the garage for around 5 days at Christmas time. On start up yesterday it ran rough for about 30 seconds and the check engine light came on. It smoothed out and ran fine on the trip to the dealer. They reset the computer and told me it was an intermittent fault in the #4 injector and had to special order the part to change next week.I picked up the car that evening and it ran fine It ran fine this morning also. I'm reluctant to let them change the injector because of the amount of disassembly involved. The car has around 8100 miles on it and has been running great. I trust the dealer to fix the car since it is under warranty but the mechanics tend to be a bit careless in doing the work and I don't want tool marks and scratches which invariably happen.
Has anyone else out there had a similiar problem? I'm thinking there may have been a little crud in the injector and it cleaned itself out.
We have a 1998 Chrysler van with over 50K miles and have never had an injector problem. I run injector clearer in the van now and then but nothing in the PT so far.

AF,
If you feel that way about the dealer/mechanic, just get some sort of paperwork to say that you had that problem but will keep an eye on it and if it happens again, you'll bring it back in. You still have plenty of time before the warranty runs out so throw a bottle of injector cleaner in the PT once in awhile and keep an eye out.

Personally, I would have the dealer perform the repair. You'll never know when the #4 injector will fail or cause unseen damage or shorten the life of other components in the long run. The injector may intermittently be too rich, too lean, or no gas being injected at all. That's why there is a warranty and unfortunately, I have seen some people procrastinate to the point where they end up paying out of their own pockets for parts and labor.

Thanks for the input. I put a good dose of Berrymans injector cleaner in it and plan to run the tank out before I make a decision. Right now it's running as smooth and strong as it ever has. My service rep at the local dealer has driven the car and told me in the past it is the strongest running non turbo PT he has driven so I will ask his opinion on the matter. I haven't had the opportunity to drive a turbo
but am impressed with the kick my stocker has in 2nd and 3rd gears. I've owned a variety of older British and Japanese 4 bangers for close to 35 years and they don't hold a candle to the PT. I'm sure the turbo is great but as long as I keep the R's up and stir the stick this car scoots along pretty good.

I've been having the same type of problem, but mine is a little different, and it started after i installed my cold air intake, but my engine light will only come up when i go past 4500 or 5000 rpms and will go away next day, and there's no performance change, everything else will be the same exept the light that comes on for a day or two. Any recomendations??

Sounds like a sensor problem. Next time the light comes on run by the service department at your dealer and have a technician hook up their portable computer scanner and pinpoint the sensor causing the problem.

More than likely, you are going to either have to disconnect your battery for a few minutes to reset the computer or have the dealer reset the computer. Then the computer will learn the new air flow settings/characteristics and make adjustments based on the new air intake setup. If the problem still occurs, then it is possible the one of your sensors has gone bad (MAP or the 02 sensor)or was damaged during the upgrade.
