Default Brake-light problem.

Hi!
Im swedish so please bare with me. Im quite bad in english.

I have a PT Cruiser CRD (diesel) 2007.
The brake-lights don't work. The mystery is that the center high mounted stop light works as it should. Does anybody have a tip on what could be wrong? So far I haven't found any broken fuses but mabye I haven't found them all?

Anders

Since your 3rd brake light works...the 1st thing to check would be the bulbs in the tail lights.

Seems remarkably simple, but mine went out almost simultaneously. Third brake light ones went out later, but 2 of them went at almost the same time.

They seemed to be OK but I changed them anyway. No result!

I came across this site looking for something else and check it from time to time. They have a step by step and include the 3rd brake light working, regular brake lights not working. Can't hurt. Give it a peek.

Third brake is powered by Computer in second generation and I believe power to brake light is from TIPM and with both going bad at the same time is suspect to me. And there is the brake switch located above brake pedal that has a multi contact switch. It reads on the side "If you remove the switch you must buy a new one" one use only. On the switch there is a little lever that you twist after you install to calibrate the brake switch. It cannot be removed and reinstalled without messing up the calibration. (unless your really handy and take it apart and reset the switch from inside so you can make use of the small lever to calibrate it after install)
New switch was $10.00 US

One wire only until a splice that is at the rear of the car

The CHMSL (hi-mount stop lamp) receives power from the instrument cluster, based upon the same signal from the brake pedal switch

These are two separately wired circuits from front to rear of car

If bulbs are confirmed good (light up when 12 volts are applied), then check on your TIPM,; maybe a fuse, but I have not researched this

OK research suggest fuse #3 (10 amp)
Schematics sort of confuse me, your good at it thanks for the details.
