I guess I'm posting this in the right forum...
Anyways, the brakes make a horrible squeaking sound when applied. I have a 01, with rear Drum brakes by the way. They do not Squeak at higher speeds such as 35mph+. However, when going around in parking lots (slwo speeds) when I go to stop the brakes make this horrible loud squeaking sound. My dad knows somebody with a Pt Cruiser, and he says his squeaks because the drums get dirty. The solution is to take them apart and clean them off. However, after about 30 days the squeaking come comes back. I could easily clean the brake drums, I've done a good amount of work on cars before, that'll be a easy job. However, I really do not want to try to fix something on my new car. I have this phobia of working on newer cars, I just don't like to mess with them. Does anybody else have this problem? What is the solution? |

By talking about the drums, you're implying the noise is from the rear. Has it always done it or is it new? Might be the wear indicators - the metal fingers that are designed to scrape when lining wears enough that it's time for replacement. [:I]

I've only had the car for a few weeks. I don't really think its the indicators, because it doesn't squeak at higher speeds.

It is a pretty common problem that I don't know how to cure myself. I've been putting up with it for quite awhile. Mine didn't start till I had over 20,000 miles. Everything has been taken apart lubed twice. Shoes are in good shape but it just keeps returning. I'm just about ready to change the brake shoes as nothing else works.. At really low speeds you can hear the shoes as they are contacting the drum
