Default Stalling at idle

2001 non turbo

Just fixed up this thing I bought from someone, had a bad timing belt.

Turned key, no start. Turns key with a little gas and it starts. Sounds good. Let it to to idle it stalls. Only starts with some gas pedal.

After a while I got it idling. Turned off, still need throttle to start. Again, not idli g.

Cleaned throttle body while on car with throttle body cleaner. Has fresh gas, even put a little fuel injector cleaner in there.

No codes. I wish I had a code!

I need to get this car finished asap. My friend is loaning a place to work on it. I still need to do suspension and bushings. I need to sort this out first.

I've searched the forum, but any help would be awesome.

Took the ica out cleaned it. May have helped a little.

Going to get a new one to put in and see what happens.

So the old iac looked old and crusty.

So I went to autozone and got a duralast one. I know oem is better and everything. But I wanted to see if this solved my issue.

Totally cleaned throttle body. Installed new iac. Started with the key/no throttle pedal help or anything. I was very happy.

But it felt like the rpm hung a little after I revved it.

Then the idle felt like a little low. Then it stalled. Tried to start and back to same old problem again. Needs throttle to start and keep running.

So sad.

Can anyone help me?

Tomorrow I will disconnect battery for ten minutes and push brake pedal down to reset computer. Maybe that will fix the issue.

I would suggest checking to see if a wire harness has dropped down hitting the half shaft under the engine. Sometimes on the 2001 & 2002 the wire harness drops and hits the half shaft burning through the harness and starts shorting wires out.

Thanks so much for you info.

If checked and all wires look good. Nothing lower be the half shafts.

Two developments. I have a 1685 and 1193 codes. I am headed to get a new iat sensor now.

Also this morning the car panic alarm went off for no reason. Used th key in ignition to shut it off. Maybe that's why I got the 1685.

Replaced the iac sensor. At first starting with key, it would not start. Used some gas to get it going. It finally stayed idling. I just let it be for a while. I think the computer calibrated it.

My next issue is the top rad water hose. It seems like it has too much pressure in it. Maybe the radiator is clogged.

I have to investigate this.

Checks rad hose again it seems fine. But to start the car you still need to give it throttle, then it,will idle.

No code.

Might go and get a tps or and a mass air. See it is helps.

^^^^

Do or have you ever work for VW because they are the only one I know that bypassed emission regulations effected by the ECU firmware set for US sold vehicles?

Forum Myths...and less than good understanding of the OBDII diagnostic system on 1995 and up vehicles.

No need to respond.... I already have a response in file that I often post. I just didn't feel like it today. But the day is still young. lol

Just keep believing what ever you need to in-order to get your PT up and running well.
