Default Which radiator fan?

Hello everyone...just need a little assistance picking the proper radiator fan assembly. Our 2007 PT overheats on idle with A/C on (common problem, I know). I changed the fan out 2 years ago myself on a freezing rain October day and it took double the time it should've due to frozen fingers.

Fan crapped out again and my mechanic was quoting an insane price for the fan plus labor, so I'm going to do it myself again and deal with scraped knuckles, etc.

The only problem is, I'm not sure exactly which fan I need. 2007 non-turbo, but I see a 3-pin and a 4-pin fan. How do I tell which one I need, without removing the current assembly?
I can't remember which one I purchased 2 years ago. This time, I'll note it for any future replacing.

As a side note, my 2003 went over 300,000 miles last week. Hard to believe!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Maybe? Husband has it at work, so I will try to figure it out later tonight. If not, it will wait until the weekend when I have time to crawl around.

Your going to have to teach him how to do stuff. Lol if always answered and thought the wife anything she was interested in learning on the cars.

Maybe someone else will be able to tell you more before you get to that point.

From a search of the fans on the internet (yes Nitro, the Internet) for the second generation PT's, the fans all look like they have 4 pin connectors.

Radiator Fan Assembly Fits 2006 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser Dorman OE Solu | eBay

Also, the Dorman fan gives you a lifetime warranty.

I almost posted that this afternoon, but didn't...just in case I was wrong...didn't need to start an argument

I don't have to worry about that. As an official ASE certified Moderator (got the certificate lying around here somewhere) I can post and delete everything I learned from the backyard Internet and still be a happy go lucky fellow without insulting anyone.

Goodyear recently replaced the fan on my PT, they used one from NAPA. In checking their website, they offer a 3 pin, a 4 pin, and one with no relays. My PT used the 4 pin.

I would suggest checking the wiring going to the radiator fan plug and the plug itself before ordering the radiator fan. You never know if the mechanic just assumed the problem is the radiator fan and not the wiring, plug, relays, coolant sensor, etc.
chuzz likes this.

Thank you. My mechanic definitely didn't assume, they went through everything and he really pushed them to make sure the relays were good, etc.
He said he really wanted them to make sure since he didn't want me to spend $671 (if I approved) and have it not be the fan.
If I didn't trust them, I would totally agree with you!
