Default K&N Intake System - Claimed 12HP Boost?

K&N claims their factory replacement intake system is dyno proven to increase HP at 5086RPM's, by 12HP. Anyone have this intake and notice any increase to performance? Preferably, input from those with the filter on the turbo PT.

a horsepower gain of 12.13 @ 5086 RPM

Many of K&N products that they have tested on DYNO's has been hashed over many forums for years. *I suggest to carefully read them again pertaining specifically to the PT Cruiser? Most don't catch the clues how they achieve the gains!

*The DYNO tested systems do work as advertised.

I have been doing **DYNO testing for years and I have yet to meet anyone that can feel 5-12 HP in their engines. Most always it is seen on a repeatable time slips. However I do understand the need to know that something money spent on can be felt,i.e.BUTT DYNO mentality.

** owned and operated Engine,Chassis & portable Chassis Dyno's

Now to toss a wrench in the gear gogs...***NO CAI will work on a PT Cruiser with a unmodified intake system from the Throttle body to the intake port on the head.

***Tested via IATs on a 2005 GT PT Cruiser with various CAI's. Will compare data with anyone that did the same.

I recommend to invest in a Sniper NOS system for a safe reliable horsepower gain up to 75HP.

I was interested to see where Nitro fell on this one. I, for one, don't believe the K&N is giving that much power. FWIW, I believe the website says "*estimated 12 hp" which is better than their other system which says "estimated 5.69 hp." LOL

You are funny guy!

I personally have *sold (*as a dealer from several of my shops I owned) and used K&N products for almost 30 years. I even know many K&N reps. and invited a couple to come on this forum once to try to help explain some interesting information technically speaking about K&N and how they conduct there product testing. Many members like CREWZIN, busted_PT,Rob342,bubba1952,gold2006, etc. recall the thread very well.

If you re-read my response I tried to have members expand beyond what they think they are reading in the advertisement and try to see the information that is being said.

FWIW, I consider 12 to be a fairly significant number and, as Nitro said, you probably couldn't feel a 12 hp difference. I think the general rule of thumb is that you don't feel a 10hp difference at all. I think the CAI is especially likely to give the perception of power because of, as you noted 'the noise"

Naturally aspirated or turbo? What's your prospective on fitment of the box around the filter, blocking out engine heat?

Unless you can do a before and after DYNO run with closely matched deltas it is really hard to say?

IT wont make a difference with a TURBO model PT trying to control intake heat temperatures. The only way to effectively control them is with a carefully considered custom intake system and a quality IC or water/meth injection. Or any combination of these.

My PT would be faster, because my wallet would be about $300 "lighter".
