Default Vibration when the car is stopped

I am about to buy a PT cruiser Turbo 2.4. I was doing the test drive and I notice a small vibration in the dashboard when I stopped at the light. I asked about the vibration and the person said it is was normal in PT cruisers.

Could you please give me an advice ?

It's not normal. You didn't mention the mileage or year but a good guess is that it needs one or more of the motor mounts replaced.

BTW: Welcome to the forum.

It is a 2006 with 52000 miles. The car looks pretty new

So the guy is asking asking almot 5000 bucks but if I need to change the mounts I do not have idea how much I will pay for. Any idea ?

Many thanks.. I am glad being part of this forum as well.

Cost is hard to estimate. If your talking a dealer or mechanic doing the work, a lot depends on the hourly rate. The parts aren't expensive. With that low in mileage, it's possible it's only the upper or lower torque strut, maybe 1 1/2 hours each but the first thing is to find a good mechanic at a garage or shop that's had some experience with PT Cruisers and find out exactly what the problem is. Remember, it was only a guess that it was one or more of the mounts.

Normally, it it had more miles, the timing belt could have been replaced and one of the signs that it wasn't done right (tooth off) is a ruff idle but I doubt that job has been done with your car.

I would suggest you have a qualified mechanic take a look at the PT Cruiser. You might find something that might be a major repair.

I agree with this.
But, the shaking is like torque struts (aka motor mounts).
You will probably also get a little front end "clunk" when placed in gear, or hit the gas hard.

Vibration is not normal as my 06 115,000 miles idles so smooth at red lights
I wonder if its still running.
Try it with the AC in the off position and see what happens.

I checked with the mechanic. He said that I have two mounts that must be replaced but even after the replacement I still see the vibration.

However, you are right !!! if the AC is off, there is NO vibration !!!! What should I do ?

Your radiator fan might not be working properly. You need to check and make sure its working properly to ensure your engine does not overheat and your A/C works properly.
CREWZIN and JoeX like this.

The radiator works fine and the car is not over heating. The mounts were changed but I still have a vibration with A/C on. I do not know what to do.
