I live in the San Gabriel Valley area, I plan to take my car to track after my Xenon front is installed. My current mods are only a mopar dual cat back, and going to see what kind of times I can pull on an 04 GT 5-Speed. I suspect the 04 5-Speed to run about 15.2 secs, but since I'm a rookie with manauls, my times will probably suck to start.

Where'd you get the number for the PT? I can do 0-60 in under 8.5 easy. The Z-71 I raced was about a 1998, the grand prix about the same. Do you consider both vehicles revving their engines at the stoplight, roasting the tires, and engines at full throttle racing? Or does someone need to blow out or break something? It's not always the car either, drivers ability plays a role as well.

You see people making all sorts of crazy claims for their cars, but Car & Driver puts the N/A 5-speed PT 0-60 time at 8.5 seconds, so I don't see CHROMEDCRUISER as totally out of line here, but beating the IS300 I can only put down to the driver being kind of a dork for not being able to beat the N/A PT. Either that or he had three very large friends in the car and a trunk full of stuff - or badly missed a shift.
CHROMEDCRUISER is dead on about driver ability: you should have seen the bonehead trying to stage his BMW 325i at Cali Speedway a week or so ago. He screwed up three times, then redlighted and tried to stage again....while the car in Lane 1 was halfway down the track! |

Thanks mike-in-orange... the IS300 did beat me in fact, by about 4 car lengths. The guy driving the BMW should sell it, no use in driving it if you don't know how to drive.

true the IS is slow 0-60 but after that it really moves out and will give our G35 a run for the money.
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html FROM ALLPAR: Motor Trend's one-year PT Cruiser road test update expresses general satisfaction with the PT, noting that it still turns heads, has had no breakdowns, and seems to be losing less oil now that it's broken in (they are giving it the recommended 7,500 mile oil changes - most owners won't see oil consumption). They recorded 0-60 acceleration as 8.6 seconds, better than the five-speed Honda Civic EX (9.0 seconds) - so much for "poor acceleration." 10, 2002. Ok so my #s were off gotta go to a better source next time. Motor Trend always seems to squeeze the best #s out of the cars. Tomorrow ill have to give my first attempt at a 0-60 in my 2001 5 speed, im not one for the drag racing, love the turns See, i never did it before cause id just be disapointed

RallyD, do you have any engine mods? If not, I would strongly suggest getting yourself a K&N drop in filter, and removing the two silencers, someone posted a decrease in 1/4 mile by .42 seconds just from a drop in and removing the silencers. I removed mine, and it gives the PT a much throatier sound. Just a thought.

how do you remove the silencers?

The top of the airbox lid has a white silencer. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the entire white piece. Easy to do once you see it.
Remove the snorkel from the lower airbox and remove the clamshell that surrounds the snorkel. You will see holes in the snorkel. Tape these up with electrical tape. Replace clamshell and put back in the intake, or leave the whole assembly out if you like. Easy to do once you see it. Your intake will be slightly louder but will be a lot less restrictive. I'm sure there is a thread with pictures of how to do this somewhere on here if it is not clear. |
