Default Check engine light

I recently had my check engine light checked and was informed I had a miss on #2 cylinder. I replaced the wires and plugs Now the guy at Autozone says there are some old codes that he can't clear. I tried taking the battery cable off but the engine light comes back on......any suggestions???

Removing the battery cable only resets the DTC warning. DTCs are stored in the PCM even if the battery is disconnected and will remain in fault until that condition is no longer present.

Unless their is a problem with the diagnostic connector or the PCM you can clear DTCs with a good scan tool.

Try going to a different place to get your DTC read and cleared.

FYI in the future if you get a DTC you should note what it is clear it and then see if it returns before assuming anything and randomly replacing parts.

I prefer to have my own OBDII Scan Tool instead of relying on someone else that might have a bad scan tool or not be trained properly on how to use a scan tool. The OBDII Scan Tools are not that expensive and you save time not having to take it somewhere.

This is where I got my OBDII Scan Tool.

Search results for: 'OBDII scan tool'
