Colby,

I don't get what your saying. There's no need to change tranny fluid that early. QSD and I both had it done at 50,000. If you have it done properly, it takes a lot of oil (11-15 quarts?)..that's with a complete flush which is the best way but it costs somewhere around $100.

Did someone tell you verbally? Sometimes 15 can sound like 50. It can't hurt, but as Crewzin said, it's about $100. Be sure you get ATF 4 or ATF 5 ONLY. I understand there's a filter that should be changed, also.

Thats for the info guys.
I have already been told by everyone here that I have talked to that I was taken for a ride. Change at 15,000 was recommended by the person putting my car in for service. I had it done at 22,000.

I was told that I missed it at 15,000. I asked why I was never told about the change and no one really cared.

I paid 115 for the change. Ah, whatever the PT shifts smoother now then it did and drives better, so I believe it did help.

Remember the heat down here really screws things up the shop manager said that they usually change at 22,000 he said this before I even meantioned that my car had 22,000 on it. He does not look at work orders but over sees the work. I believe he was not telling me a bunch of crap because he drives an 01 Limited.

As weak as the PT transmisson is it's a good idea to change it every 30,000 miles. Doing more often than that is a waste of money.

How often would you want to have it done in a manual tranny car? Mines a 2001 NA about to roll over the big 50k. I was planning on having it done here pretty soon. I know manual tranny's hold a lot less fluid then the autos if I am not mistaken.

Let me know what you all think,

Matt

Dunno the recommended interval, but for a manual, the fluid is just there to lubricate the gears; in an automatic, the fluid actually transfers the power.
Look in the owners manual for change intervals.

King, if your car shifts smoother and runs better, than it was
money well spent.

Some would say that a change at 15k if you dont know the history of the vehicle (used) or if you live in roller coaster climate (mid west) might be a good idea. At 15k there is still that sense of newness to the tranny that a change might help.

It didnt hurt you to do it and it was only 115 bucks to make sure you are taking the best care of your baby.
IMHO
