Mine isn't a gt, so maybe that's why its different. I took out the air box and removed the white cylindrical piece, but don't know what the other silencer looks like. there is the elbow piece that goes toward the fender, but its completely free all the way through. There is a foam piece on the back side of the air box on the firewall side is that it? And when you say you tape them up what are you talking about? What is there to tape up? I drove without the white piece and really didn't notice a difference. What am I doing wrong?

I have a non-turbo PT Cruiser. Pay no attention to taping anything. That tube you see going towards the fender is what you need to take out. It will be a pain to get out, you need to do some prying, but it'll come loose. Once you've taken that one out, you'll really hear a difference. I think the white silencer brings more power, and the black one brings more sound. Get a K&N filter and you'll be set.

On the Touring 2003 Non turbo there is only the one silencer: the white one.

I left the snorkle in and plan to later mod a lager snorkle.

Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I've heard that the black snorkel is a silencer.

Ive heard that in some models there is a silencer IN the snorkle.

As far as the snorkle itself being a silencer:

It does act as a reducer, so sure it can be a silencer. But look at where it points. Right at the hole for cooler air. I would say its primary function is to get that cold air instead of hot air from the engine compartment.

IMHO

There is a piece inside the air box that looks to be made of some foam material. It is on the back side of the box toward the firewall. From within the box it looks like a small little cone pointing toward the hood. On the outside of the box it looks like a foam block attached to the outside. I just left that in there. There is an easy way to get the snorkel off. I just pushed down the tab with a screwdriver and lightly tapped the end with a hammer and it came right out. I haven't driven it yet so I don't know if it made any sound differences yet. (Edit: I got a chance to drive it around tonight, yeah big difference. Depending on my speed I tend to get a slight whistling sound, but the sound at full RPMs is pretty cool.)

The sound comes through at low rpms and at full throttle. Dont expect any difference in sound at idle.

Thanks Gazoo. Those instructions helped me out. Unfortunately, I only got up to step 5. I'm confused about the clips to remove. I'm posting a pic of my airbox with the filter removed so that someone can point out which clips should be removed.

(Click here, if the image does not load.)

On my photo above, there are clips on 'A' and 'B', and a tab where 'C' is. As described on Step 6, where should I apply the screwdriver at?...

Which one is the snorkel, 'd' or 'e'?
