Default More Problems & Engine Noises

Hey guys,

As some will know I had my car serviced at the dealership recently and discovered the valve cover gasket repair they did not many miles ago has failed. Not happy.

It's been a few weeks and my car is making terrible 'vacuum' noises. When I rev the car in idle or in gear, it sounds like a high pitched vacuum of air, higher and higher until it's almost unbearable by 3000-4000 RPM. They claimed my high pressure P/S hose is leaking. And apparently a 'whining' noise can be related to low P/S fluid. The technician added a lot into the reservoir in front of me after they gave the car back. I never had this noise before the service. Did they break/play with something?

When slowing down and changing down in gears, the car makes a low pitch 'dragging' type whine, which lowers as the car slows.

In idle, the car also makes this 'woodpecker' or 'photocopier' noise, seemingly from the passenger (driver for me) side wheel well/inside dash, deep in the engine compartment. It's intermittent and the taps are in clusters. It goes away for odd numbers of seconds and then does it again for a moment.

The idle changes wildly from between 600 and 800. After a time of being on, a loud fan noise begins and after awhile turns off. The lights dim and brighten or turn off momentarily as the car 'shifts' its power during idle.

All of these noise only just starting happening, and all at once.

Appreciate the help guys.

If you have a leak in the power steering (I did), most likely the PS hose is bad. PS reservoir connections could also leak. Check under the front if you see dripping oil, wet transmission and PS Rack parts. Perhaps PS fluid got onto your alternator belt too and is slipping. Anyway, I had to wash my engine bay to clean all the gunk from the leaking PS hose.
