Default Ecu and key questions

I finally figured out my ecu took a crap, I have a donar car with a good computer and key. Both cars are 1st gens non turbo automatics.

Questions:
Can I take the ecu, key and lock cylinder out of the donar and install into my car with out any issues?

Will I have an issue with the transponder communicating at all with the different parts.

I did that with my 06 (second Generation) and it worked.
Surprising enough it didn't eneven throw a code for wrong VIN

I stand corrected, I forgot about the SKIM module.

Would it just throw a code or will it disable it too?

You need to swap over the ECU, key+lock cylinder, and, the skim module. Once you swap all three pieces, it will not throw any codes at all.

I still don't have a PT but from the previous cars I've had why do you need to change the lock barrel?
Won't it just be the keys transponder that's paired to the electronics not the blade?

You will need the PCM, the SKIM module and the sentry key all from the donor car to make this work. To avoid having to change the cylinder in your PT, you can just take a zip tie and fasten the sentry key to the ring to the SKIM module under the column cover. Then you can use a non-sentry copy of your original sentry key to start your PT.

Here's some photos of the SKIM module from my 2001 Limited:

I'd try bonding the transponder chip to the inside of the plastic cover/housing so in the event of an attempted theft the first thing the thief does is to smash the plastic off to get at the wires and they throw the plastic cowling in the back out of the way and they would then unbeknown to them be immobilising the car

I zip tied my transponder key to the module that Handy posted a picture of. That way, I have extra keys I can use. I got 3 keys cut at Walmart for a couple of dollars each. My son, wife and I all have a key.
