Default 2002 cruiser vaccum hose problem.

Having an issue with the vacuum hose that is connected to the throttle body. Whenever that hose is connected, the engine stalls, but when the hose is disconnected its runs fine. I don't know what exactly that hose runs to.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum

Is your engine light on? If so what is the engine trouble code? Do you have an OBDII Scan tool?

Was the timing belt recently replaced? If so check to see if the timing belt is off by one tooth.

How many miles on the PT Cruiser?

What parts have been replaced so far?

First, welcome to the forum from the great sovereign state of Arkansas!

Now if I understand the issue, the PT runs with the hose disconnected but dies with the hose connected?

If so, my first inclination would be that the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve is stuck closed. This valve meters air for the engine to idle. If stuck in the closed position, the engine may choke when at idle with the butterfly closed. Removing a vacuum line attached to the throttle body might allow enough air in to keep the engine running.

For me, I would first check the trouble codes as others have mentioned. Those codes, if present, may indicate another issue. However, if I found nothing to indicate something else, I'd likely remove the throttle body and the IAC valve. Then I would clean them really well with carb cleaner of some type assuring the IAC valve was not stuck. Then I'd reassemble and see if the engine runs as it should.

Again, check the codes and any other indicators before removing throttle body. I am only going off what you've said so far.

Welcome to the forum

My response is pretty much might be what the other 2 members said ...except I would be careful using anything except chemical cleaners made for electrical parts. Some chemical cleaner may damage the IAC.
