Your kind of talking in circles here. I take it your trying to sell it but you want to get rid of the P0440 code. Usually, that code pops up after filling up the gas tank and the cap isn't turned at least 3 clicks to make sure it's properly closed. It also takes a number of starts for that fault light to go away, unless there's something else wrong like a worn gas cap that isn't sealing properly.

Is this what's in the Owner's Manual for the Gen1?

I know it's a Gen1 that the OP is selling, but for my Gen2 this is what is stated in the Owner's Manual regarding gas cap tightening:

"NOTE: Tighten the gas cap about 1/4 turn until you
hear one click. This is an indication that cap is properly
tightened."

I've seen some people really crank on their gas cap. I use to do more than one click, but I'm on about my 3rd gas cap on my PT, and I use the locking MOPAR one, and they are kind of expensive, so no more than 1 click. My PT doesn't like the after-market ones like a Stant, as it keeps setting off the Gas Cap code. I had the gas cap code a couple of months ago and a new MOPAR cap solved the problem.

We've been saying "3" for a few years now mostly just to be sure it's on. The Owners Manual for the Gen 1 does say one click and 1/4 turn but on mine (original cap) 1/4 turn = 3 clicks.

When mine threw that code, I removed the cap's O-ring and cleaned the groove it fits in, cleaned the O-ring and sprayed it with some WD-40. I then cleaned the filler neck and put it back on. I then cleared the code with my OBDII scanner. It has NOT come back since doing this. I also click my cap 3 clicks after putting gas in it.
