I would suggest taking it to another place to do a battery load test. Make sure they input the amps that the battery is suppose to hold. Most of the time they don't do it properly.

If you are checking it yourself what are you getting with the engine running?

I second the second opinion. Where did you get the alternator checked? You mentioned a Snap On machine, but was it from someone qualified to run the machine? You have changed the battery and still have the same problem. Chances are, you won't have two batteries bad.

You can get an voltmeter very reasonable at Harbor freight. We need to know what voltage you are getting at the battery with the engine running. You should be getting between 14.0 to 14.5 volts. If the voltage is as low as 13.5 we need to find why it might not charging properly.

Search results for: 'voltmeter'

I don't remember any time that a bad battery caused the "battery" light to come on. It is always a charging issue. I know it's a pain but, it might be a good idea to pull the alternator and have it checked separately form the system. The alternator could be charging and still have a drain causing the light to come on. If it tests good, look for a wiring problem.

We need to do a full diagnosis before taking any action. There are several possible causes so we need to cover it all before deciding which area to check.

The PCM EVR (electronic voltage regulator) grounds the field on the generator and varies the pulse width of the ground to get the voltage it needs/wants depending upon input from the sensors monitoring various temperatures. Check the battery temperature sensor if it has one.

There might be a short on a light circuit. I would suggest pulling one fuse at a time to see if the battery light goes out to help isolate the circuit that might be drawing excessive current. It most likely will eliminate which circuits are good if the battery light stays on.

There was a PCM software flash for false battery light illumination. Chrysler TSB # 18-007-07. PCM software flashes might be related to this issue.

What year is your PT Cruiser?
