Default Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant

My daughter has a 2004 basic PT with a stick shift and she loves it. She has about 92k miles on it. Did the timing belt package repair which went OK. Now there seems to be a small coolant leak. Her mechanic said she could live with it, monitor it, and start looking for another car. OR, use the Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealant which his shop does not do because of all the complaints about it. Any suggestions????

This may be an alternative?

Every *engine I built for my customers they got a bottle of this which was required used for the warranty.

Moroso 35500 Ceramic Engine Seal

*Although I did occasionally built a stock engine form someones grocery getter or succor moms van or tow car/truck, my business was primarily Performance Engines for Race vehicles.

Moroso 35500 Ceramic Engine Seal says it works only with cars running water, not antifreeze...has that been your experience?

using those off the shelf fix-it products are worth it if it provides a fix, even if it only lasts 6 months. bobistheoilguy website has reviews on a lot of these automotive oil and coolant additives.

The Moroso, or it's supplier (Irontite) worked for me in stopping a leaking heater core. Frankly, I would have preferred to learn how to replace a head gasket rather than the heater core on the PT because you have to remove the entire dashboard for that job. I was having a cloud of coolant vapor coming out of thr vents and coolant building up on the floor at on the driver's side. After using a pint of the sealant, the leak has stopped completely and the coolant temperature has been rock solid at 195 whether the outside temp has been 58 or 110F.

You do have to empty the coolant, flush it with water and run it with the sealant for an hour. Then you have to drain it and let it sit empty for a day before filling it back up with coolant.

I've been very impressed with this product so far.

Thanks NitroPT

You may only have a hose or other gasket leaking if this happened right after the belt job. At any rate the two products recommended here are good. There is another you can do yourself. I have used it manny time without any problems. This company makes to many different ones in my opinion. But if you get this one it does work. No draining necessary. You just follow the directions. Bar's Leak block seal permanent head gasket fix. 25 to 28 bucks. Don't go with the cheaper ones. As I have no idea of how well they work. I only use about a half a bottle on small leaks. And problem is gone. You may not even have a head gasket problem like I said earlier. You can do this without paying a shop. For that matter your daughter can actually do this. It's that easy. Do not add this in the overflow. It needs to be put into the engine while cold and ran for 30 minutes.

She does have a really small leak according to her mechanic with no overheating or clouds of smoke or big pools of coolant on the floor so the Bar's product sounds like a winner.

My daughter talked to her mechanic again and he said the leak is from the engine block itself not the head gasket
