Default Cruise Control of 2005 Turbo

The cruise control on my 2005 Turbo works intermittently (mostly NOT). When I press the cruise button on the stalk, the light comes on and stays on until I push the button again. When I try to set the speed control by pressing the stalk down, nothing happens. Occasionally, when I press the stalk down, the cc engages and holds the speed until I cancel it. (Once, after it had engaged, the cc disengaged when I went over a bump in the road!) I have replaced the fuse (#10), and I have re-seated the electrical connector on the firewall. Any other suggestions?

Mine takes a couple times to push the stalk down to engage the cruise control also. I put it down to old age of the CC stalk (coming up to 17 years) and not making good contact. Since I know it's going to happen I just push a couple times till it sets the speed.

I've tried repeatedly pressing the lever down (lightly and hard), up and away from me, but nothing makes it engage. I've tried turning the cc on and off with the button, but the same non-results. The light stays on the whole time until I turn it off.

Get some CRC electrical contact cleaner and remove the steering wheel cover and switch. Clean it as best as you can and try it. If you don't mind taking it apart and cleaning it, that would be even better.

I wish I could thank the poster who suggested that I disconnect the battery and depress the brake pedal a couple times to re-boot the computer, but I can't find the posting! So, I must just thank everyone on the forum who postS helpful responses for dummies liKe me.

The "check engine" light that had been on since shortly after my last servicing also has disappeared. Life is good!

Somehow, I forgot my own frequent advice on repairing ANYTHING:

"If it's mechanical, kick it; if it's electronic, re-boot it".
