Thumbs up PT Cruiser N/A with Low Boost?

I've been wanting to make my PT Cruiser a bit of a sleeper for a while, and right now I've got a Spectre filter where the battery used to be (moved the tray back to let cold air onto the filter). I was wondering if I were to upgrade the stock internals of the 2.4 N/A (pistons, conrods), would I be able to run at least 8 psi of boost on the car? Right now I've got a minimum wage paying job and i can't really afford a PT Cruiser GT, so i would really appreciate if you have any useful advice, and I've also heard that going past 4 psi in the N/A internals would explode the engine , was a rumor, so I'm not sure what to do.
Please offer me any advice you have. Thanks.

No point in wasting money on an N/A PT when what you want is a GT. Take that money and save it until you have a GT.
I have, and love, my two n/a cars, 02 Dream Cruiser and 07 Pacific Coast Street Cruiser, but my first was, and still is, my first and favorite for fun 03 Dream Cruiser , the GT in an orange and black tuxedo !

Agree with the others. Plenty of turbo PTs out there - many can be had cheap.
The turbo also has a larger cooling capacity, fatter front brake disks,.... so you attempting to upgrade the internals of yours would be uneconomic and not complete.

First, welcome to the forum from the great sovereign state of Arkansas!

About two years ago, I came to the same conclusion as already mentioned here. I found that PT GT's don't cost much more than NA PT's. So I sold my tastefully modded 2001 Limited and picked up a very clean 2005 GT for only a couple of hundred more than a got for the Limited. Today, this is definitely the way to go if you want performance from a PT Cruiser. And once you have the GT (preferably a 2004 or 2005 model), there's tons you can do easily increase performance. So that's where you want to start from.

However, adding a turbo or supercharger to an NA has been done many times. If you got back to some of the oldest performance threads in this forum, you can how it was done. It's great reading. But again, today it's better to just trade for a GT. It's the better and MUCH cheaper option.
