Default CONFUSED Overheating kind of

So I am having odd to me PT issues. I have a daily drive that has enough stop and go to make me crazy. I am a gauge freak which I feel is a good thing. My car runs dead center on temp and if sitting will go to 3/4 and back to half. Usually this leads me to put fluid in the overflow which is again empty. So I recently drained my radiator and changed fluid all went well refilled it ran heater set overflow to correct level. Well driving to work temp at half stopped I notive the mist of antifreeze steam. Get to work looks like an issue with hose that runs to overflow cut ithose clamp all good. Few days later same thing check radiator at end of work shift it is full overflow looks empty? Totally lost where/why?

I would suggest that you are getting air into the engine cooling system. Suggest a engine coolant pressure test to make sure your system is pressurized to keep the engine coolant temperature from rising. Check your radiator cap to make sure its working properly.

If the engine coolant pressure test checks out good I would suggest with the engine cold, take off the radiator cap, start the engine and see if you can see bubbles coming up. Take some of the coolant out if it is right to the top. Do not leave the engine running very long as the coolant will rise and overflow without the radiator cap being on it.

Check overflow tank and hose for cracks, check both sides of the radiator seams where the aluminum is crimpted to the plastic tanks. The the mounting base of the radiator pressure cap fill tube. Look for a build up of dry or damp chemicals.

Check to make sure your radiator cooling fan is cycling. Mine starts to cycle before temp gauge reaches NOT. (Normal Operating Temp)

Don't over look the basics ... take a look at your radiator cap if the rubber gasket is cracked ... it won't hold pressure.

I just completed a time belt, water pump replacement..... and I found an Aluminum AC line coming off the pump that was rubbing a hole in the lower radiator hose. The aluminum tubing also had wear on it from the rubbing.

Mine was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the radiator cap. The spring was worn out and not holding pressure. A quick and simple fix.

Anytime its over the middle of the engine temperature gauge its overheating. I would suggest fixing it immediately.

Manually check your radiator fans by apply 12 volts to both high and low speeds after you disconnect the plug.
