Default Overheating

I need help. My 2003 pt cruiser limited edition is over heating. The engine is blowing compression back into the system. When we first got the cruiser we replaced the radiator hoses, thermostat, and radiator cap. Could the head gaskets have a Crack in them?

Welcome to the forum.

I put you on your own thread so answers to you wouldn't be mingled with the other thread.

The cause for overheating could be a number of different things. Are you loosing any coolant? Is the radiator fan working on both speeds? Is there any trapped air in the coolant system?

If the head gasket has a crack, you should be loosing coolant and the oil might have a milky slim showing. You might also see smoke out the tailpipe.

What's your oil look like? If it's got a milkshake color to it, you've most likely got a blown head gasket. You can check under the oil filler cap for the "goo" if you can't see it on the dip stick. You can also check the color of your antifreeze by removing the radiator cap and looking down the neck. Give it a check and shout back at us.

This should be useful if you don't any of the usual "obvious" symptoms ie "white smoke and water out the tail pipe!
