Smile Tire Pressure monitor

Hi All!
New to owning the PT.
Just had the original tire and rim combo replaced with aftermarket wheels and rims.
The low pressure sensor light came on, do these cars come equipped with tire pressure monitors?

What would happen if I just ignore it and keep driving?
thanks!!!!

I believe that the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) did come with some 2nd generation PT's. It probably depended on what option package came with the PT. Like the system that came with most other cars, it's there to help you monitor pressure from inside the car. Abnormal tire wear will be the only outcome by ignoring a warning of low pressure but it will help you keep track if you have one tire going down for some reason.

I have an 08 with TPMS. A few months back I purchased new rims. I took the rims after delivery to an installer. He was able to reuse the original TPSM units replacing only my valve stems and the valve stem seals. He said the TPSM units generally have a five to ten year life period before going bad

The installer had a diagnostic tool to reset them. The tires were fairly new and remounted on the new rims. The new rims were the same 17 inches but a bit wider. The tires fit fine.

You might have to have them reset or you might have to replace one.

Worst case scenario some aftermarket rims are NOT compatile with the Chrysler sensors and you might have to replace them with "TPMS Bands"to maintain the function You will need the to strap the sensor and cradle to the custom wheel.

Good Luck
Dan

"A TPMS is fitted as part of the valve assembly in Chrysler cars . The sensor measures the pressure and temperature in the tire and transmits this data along with the unique car ID of the TPMS. The manufacturers of the Chrysler TPMS are Schrader Electronics and VDO."

Welcome to the forum.

What year is your PT Cruiser?

Do you know if they put the sensors in the new rims?
