Default 2006 PT turns catches but won't start

Hi all,
Someone left the dome light on in our PT and drained the battery. When I went to jump it I noticed the positive cable clamp was partially broken so I replaced it. I then tried to jump it. It would turn and catch a couple times but not start. The next day my wife called AAA and they charged the battery & tried to jump it again. It would still turn and catch a few times but not actually start.

Car ran fine the day before the battery drain.
119,000 miles
Timing belt replaced 2 months ago
Full tune up 2 months ago
TIPM replaced 2 years ago

Any tips on what the problem could be? Finances are tight so I'd like to avoid taking it to the shop if possible.

Thanks

Need more information.

is the engine light on when you are trying to start the engine? If so you will need to get the engine trouble codes.

When you turn the ignition on can you hear the fuel pump running?

It is always recommended to have a battery load test done when the battery is drained to make sure the battery is working properly.

No engine light.

I don't recall hearing the fuel pump even when the car was working. I'll check later to see if I can hear it. Doesn't make sense that the fuel pump would go bad because the battery died but I guess anything is possible.

AAA did a battery test said it was OK. Not sure what test it was since I wasn't there at the time.

OK, I do hear the fuel pump.
I took the battery in for a test and it was actually bad.
Replaced the battery but still have the same problem. Engine turns & catches but won't actually start.

Ideas?

Thanks,

Try a 2 second shot of starting fluid in the throttle body. If it starts, you'll know you have a fuel delivery problem.

I would suggest as other members indicated in the above posts to check for a good spark and good fuel pressure.

Check to make sure you are getting 58+/- 5 PSI fuel pressure.

So I had to tow this to the shop. Turns out trying to jump start the car fried the camshaft position sensor & front crankshaft position sensor. Cylinders were flooded as well since the fuel was still pumping. $500 to repair.

Seems the electronics should be safe from a simple jump start but apparently Chrysler doesn't think so.

Just thought I'd share in case this comes up again.

Thanks for all the replies!

Was this a local repair shop or the dealer?
