Default Cabin Air Filter Replacement 2008 PT Cruiser LX

Where is the Cabin Air Filter located for replacement.
Not sure if it even needs to be replaced right now
without a visual inspection. Currently have 17,000
miles. Have attempted to find Utube videos for the
2008, but have only located videos for other years,
so don't know if it's universal location on all year
models.
Engine Stats:
2.4 Liter 4 Cyclinder
DOHC 16-Valve SMPL Engine

Look forward to any help

It's underneath the cowling right behind the windshield washer reservoir.

Welcome to the forum

Are you the original owner to the vehicle? If you'very never changed it, it's way past due, and should be pretty nasty, but most likely there is no filter in the filter box.

Why is it "most likely" there is no filter in the box?

Yes I'm the original owner, bought new from a dealer.
Why do you say there might not be a filter in the filter box.
Now that I know where it's located, will attempt to get to
it. Thanks for responding

Some Chrysler bean-counter in a cubicle in some glass tower somewhere, decided as a cost-cutting measure to stop providing the filters with the vehicle. I had my PT for almost 2 years before I found out about the filter and there was no filter in the box. I now change it every year and you would be surprised how filthy it gets in just 1 year, yuk to all that stuff going inside the cabin without a filter.

My PT, even though there was no filter in the box, it had the grille on the box to keep out the big debris. I have heard that the later PT's, they no longer have the grille, so now there is this big gapping hole letting everything into the cabin ducting. The grille also helps to hold the filter in place. If you don't have the grille, you could probably devise something to keep the filter in the box.

Not my PT, but the grille is visible in this pic:

You are so right, some PT's don't have the Cabin Air Filter.
Went to the dealer where I purchased the car and the parts
associate was able to check the status of my 2008 Pt Cruiser LX,
whether it had a Cabin Air Filter. If they are right, it doesn't
even have the box where the filter goes. I was informed that
there is a Cabin Air Filter Kit Available. I passed on it for now
until further investigation of whether this air filter is necessary.
Have been driving around with this car without a Cabin Air Filter,
but will double check to see if this Cabin Air Filter and the box
is missing. If it's true, Shame On You Chrysler for putting us
owners at risk for possible medical health issues.

I checked the build sheet for my PT, and it's not listed on there, so that would be no help to you. You're going to have to remove that cowl panel to get a peek in there to if the box is in place. I think there are 4 or 5 plastic screws/plugs that you have to remove to lift the panel, not difficult.

This thread reminded me to get off my butt and finally put the cabin filter into my PT after letting it sit unopened in my closet for the past 3 months. Thanks!
